2023: No Goals

OK, so it’s “no *public* goals”, sorry for the clickbait.

I’ve decided not to share my 2023 goals publicly.

After seven years of writing them up, not really focusing on them for the most part, and then writing about the results of that lack of effort, I have to wonder if the process itself tickles the reward center in my brain just enough to actually hinder success.

That isn’t to say I’m not setting any, or that they’re maybe too personal or embarrassing to post here. No, I’m setting goals I almost did publish, but am doing so privately. That said, there are two things I do want to share.

The first is that I still plan on writing about them at the end of the year. I think it would be interesting to experiment with that approach to accountability, if you will, and I do still hope that post might be helpful or inspiring to someone, too.

The second is that I’m setting goals framed as incrementally built habits. The dietary change I mentioned in my previous post is a good example of how I intend to approach everything, given how effective it’s been. Baby steps, if you will.

If declaring your goals boldly inspires you to be accountable, by all means take that route. I’m trying something different this time. Happy New Year!
